Gray Township cemetery book has been published

We happily announce the publication of Volume 2 in our White County
cemetery group.

The Gray Township cemetery book was delivered to the library this past
week. This book contains the new readings of all the cemeteries we
could find in Gray Township, plus some over the line in Edwards County,
including Oak Grove at Grayville, Ridge and Catholic Cemetery. It also
contains comparisons to Harriet Vaught's cemetery book, which was done
about 35 years ago. Some tombstones have disappeared since then, and
many new graves have been added. This book is fully indexed and easy to
read. The price is $20.

We appreciate all the volunteers who worked on reading monuments in
this township: Pat Davis, LaNoir Brown, Maxine Grimwood, Nancy Hayes,
Virgil Hayes, Lecta Hortin, Cindy Kiehl, Tom Kiehi, Marilyn Kuykendall,
Barbara Rawlinson, Charlene Shields and Janet Woolever.
Sometimes reading and recording tombstones is a hot job. Sometimes it
is a cold job. Most always it is a hard job because of the number of
aging stones which are difficult to read. So we do thank all our
helpers.

Pat Davis worked innumerable hours getting this book typed up and ready
to go to the printer.

The Phillips Township cemetery book, which is Volume 1 in this series,
is also available at the library at a cost of $15. (The cost per book is
based on the number of pages in the book.)

Right now we are debating on what will be Volume 3. There are several
other townships with quite a lot of cemeteries read, but no township
which is complete. I suppose we'll just wait and see which township
gets finished first.

You may pick up either of these books at the genealogy library, or
we'll be glad to mail one or both to you. Send your order and check to
the Mary Smith Fay Genealogy Library, 201 N. Church St., Carmi, IL
62821. When ordering by mail, include an extra $3 to cover postage for
each book ordered.
.........

The Genealogy Library is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2
p.m. We have a few thousand volumes of genealogy, books, microfilm of
White County newspapers, and assorted other helps for those of you who
are searching for your ancestors. Come see us!
