A REMINDER: Dec. 22 will be the last date for the library to be open
this year. The library will not re-open until Feb. 5, 2002. (Seems
I
just became used to writing 2001, and here it's already time to start
with 2002!)
........
It seems a proper time to thank those volunteers who help make the
genealogy library go. I undertake this with trepidation because I'll
probably omit someone's name.
Pat Davis is the librarian who puts in many more hours than one can
imagine. Verla Young has put in countless hours on a continuing
project.
Others who volunteer are Janet Armstrong, Norma Brehm, Betty Chapman,
Carolyn Harrelson, Lecta Hortin, Leda Knight, Linda Kuykendall, Anna
Jones, Verla Savage, Charlene Shields and Sue Wallace. Thanks, folks.
We
need you.
It's impossible to list all the people who have worked on
cemeteries.
However, their names should appear in the cemetery books as they are
published. These monument readers have done a phenomenal job and have
spent countless hours on this project. As soon as volunteers have
finished one cemetery, many of them are asking where else we need help.
It's heartening to see such dedication.
Lecta Hortin is "building superintendent" and acts as liaison
between
our library and the historical society.
The Mary Smith Fay library board consists of Sue Calvert, Cindy
Conley,
Lecta Hortin, Jim Pumphrey and Charlene Shields (with me serving as
chairperson).
........
This year a new furnace and air conditioner were installed. We plan
that
our next building project will be to somehow make the building more
accessible. The steps are very steep and difficult for most of us and
totally impossible for some. We hope to change that in the coming
year.
........
We continue to acquire genealogy books and CD-ROMs. In future
columns
I'll try to tell you about some of these goodies.
........
Our heartfelt thanks to all those who have donated items and/or
offered
words of encouragement.
........
MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!
