Hoosier researchers seek White, Posey ties
There have been so many out-of-staters visiting our library that we've been busy, busy! Most of the time we've had some information which will assist them in their search. However, when two ladies came in from Fort Wayne, Ind. last week, I had my doubts about whether or not we could help them.
You see, Fort Wayne is the home of the Allen County Library, which is ranked among the top genealogy libraries in the United States, and these ladies research there all the time. However, they went away from our little library happy with several of their discoveries. I suggested they write queries for this column in an effort to find researchers on some of their family lines. Here are their queries:
DEUISCHER, ERNST--Is anyone researching the Deuischer and Ernst families of Posey County, Ind. and White County, Ill.? Frederick and Margaret Deuischer immigrated from Baden, Germany, to New York in 1858. Their first land purchase was in 1860 in Posey County, Ind. Known children: Elizabeth, Henrich, Christina, William (1845-1921) and Caroline. William Deuischer married Fredaricka Ernst (1860-1918), daughter of John Ernst and Fredaricka Hahn.
The Ernst family is believed to have immigrated from Baden, Germany to New Orleans in the 1840s or 1850s. By 1860, the family was living in Posey County. Their children included Florintine (Blash), Wilhelmina (Schaefer), Lizette (Hellner), Catharine (Blick), Henry and Fredaricka (Deuischer). Contact Terri Gorney, 4723 Barrington Drive, Ft. Wayne, IN 46806-2672. Telephone 1-219-447-0949
JONES, RANEY, BERRY, ENDSLEY--Does anyone have information on William Nathan Jones (1842-1908)? He was born in Tennessee. By 1866, he was living in White County. On May 22, 1866, he married Sarah Elizabeth Raney. On Dec. 11, 1881, he married Mary Jane Perry Berry. He had sons from both marriages. Possibility the Jones surname was changed from Endsley.
