Beatrice Rudolph Payne

Beatrice Nadine Rudolph Payne 92, of Brandon, Florida and formerly of Carmi died Monday February 5, 2001 in Brandon. She was born November 2, 1908 in Crossville, the daughter of George and Marcella (Bradshaw) Greene. She first married Clarence Rudolph and he preceded her in death. She then married Wendell Payne and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Payne spent most of her life in Dixon, IL.

She is survived locally by a nephew, Robert Finch of Carmi, and a cousin, Violet Fleming of Carmi.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Kuykendall Cemetery. The Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.


Kenneth R. Pettijohn

Kenneth R. Pettijohn, 72 of Carmi died Friday evening February 9, 2001 at his home. He was born June 15, 1928 in Concord, the son of Fred and Flora Belle (Starkey) Pettijohn. He married Jean Hutchison on March 13, 1948 in Emma and she survives. Mr. Pettijohn had been an oilfield worker, and was an avid hunter.

He is survived by his wife Jean, three sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Ellen Pettijohn of Carmi, Jim R. and Pam Pettijohn of Redbud, and Stephen L. and Debbie Pettijohn of Wooster, Ohio; five grandchildren, Lincoln Pettijohn, Vince Pettijohn, Neil Pettijohn, Nikki Edgell, and Corri Pettijohn; three great-grandchildren, Brenton Pettijohn, and Trevor and Emily Edgell. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Julia and Mary Pettijohn both of Norris City. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Ted Pettijohn, and four sisters, Reba Joyce, Lorene Bloemker, Mildred Sutton, and Ruby Louise Pearce.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday February 12, 2001 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. Joe Atkinson officiating. Burial will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Visiting Nurses Association Hospice in care of the funeral home.


Omar Lee “Cowboy” Peterson

Omer Lee “Cowboy” Peterson, 91, of Winfield, MO, died February 10, 2001. He was born August 9, 1909 in Ripley County Missouri, the son of Oscar Delbert and Martha Elsba (Wilson) Peterson. Mr. Peterson grew up in Ripley County and worked as a Constable and in the timber until 1946 when he and his family moved to Holcomb, MO. Omer was the Chief of Police from 1946-1957 in Holcomb and a proud member of the Missouri Police Association. The Peterson family moved to Carmi in 1957, where Omar worked in the oil fields until his retirement, then returned to Missouri. He became a Christian and was baptised at the age of 75. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Ellsinore, MO.

He is survived by his wife, Verda (Bea) Peterson. He is also survived by five children, Mildred Gilpin of Carmi, Marie Provance of Odessa, TX, Ruby Peterson of Sequin, TX, Bobby Joe Peterson of Kennett, MO, and Eva Campbell of St. Charles, MO; five step-sons, Raymond Acord of Kokomo, IN, Charles Acord of Rhode Island, John Acord of Massachusetts, Dutch Acord of Carmi, and George Acord of Mt. Carmel; 6 step-daughters, Gertie Browning, Rosalie Doneghue, Faye Mitchell, Mary Jordan, Vonda Rosignol all of Carmi, and Wilma Martinelli of Rhode Island; 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Bell; and his former wife, Thelma Peterson of Kennett, MO. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Georgia Alfreda Peterson; infant daughter, Angela Kay Peterson; step-son, Louie Acord; son-in-law, Jess W. Gilpin; six brothers, Ray, John, Ralph, George, Louie and Lester; three sisters, Minnie Howerton, Erma Washburn and Eulalia Bell; one grandson, Sidney Campbell; and three great-grandchildren, Tonya Gilpin, Trey Ward and Andrew Jackson.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 12, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.


Ruby Louise Pearce

    Ruby Louise Pearce, 81, of Carmi, died Sunday morning February 6, 2000 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center.  She was born May 5, 1918 in Emma, the daughter of Fred and Flora Belle (Starkey) Pettijohn.  She had been married to Hayward Pearce and he preceded her in death.

    She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Jean Pettijohn of Carmi, two sisters-in-law, Julia Pettijohn and Mary Pettijohn both of Norris City, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Ted Pettijohn, and three sisters, Reva Joyce, Lorene Bloemker, and Mildred Sutton.

    She was a member of the East Side Pentecost Church in Carmi.

    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with burial in Union Ridge Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, February 7, 2000 at the funeral home.



Clyde D. Poore

   Clyde D. Poore, 86, of Carmi, formerly of Norris City, died Tuesday morning, February 22, 2000 at the White county Medical Center Skilled Care Unit.

    He was born May 7, 1912 in Enfield, the son of Sylvanus and Lavonna (Proudfit) Poore.

    He had been married to Mabel Princze for 59 years, and she preceded him in death.  he was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Frances.

    He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Judy Poore of Springerton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Shirley and Richard Kron of Greenback, TN, and Ruth Yates of Morton; four grandchildren, Julie Jordan of Vonore, TN, Stewart and Donnie Poore, both of Springerton, and Brenda Yates of Creve Couer; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilbur Poore of Champaign; and one sister, Edna Galloway of Olney.

    Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2000 at Enfield Cemetery.  Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home of Carmi is in charge of arrangements.



Paul Vernon Puntney

Paul Vernon Puntney, 81 of Carmi, died early Saturday morning, July 29, 2000 at his home.

He was born July 6, 1919, in Carmi, the son of Fred and Clara Craig Puntney. He married E. Patricia Harman in 1946 in Carmi and she survives.

He is also survived by 2 daughters, Paula Price of Evansville, IN and Mary Craig Puntney of St. Louis, MO; 2 grandchildren, Martha Price and James Paul Price, both of Edwardsville, IL; and 1 sister, Mary Alice Barber of Evansville, IN. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Walter Fred Puntney.

Mr. Puntney was retired from the oil field. He was an Army WWII veteran and a member of the American Legion Post #224 of Carmi. He belonged to the First United Methodist Church in Carmi.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi.Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Polycarp Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church.



Emmarene Pollard

Emmarene Pollard 91, of Carmi, died Saturday evening October 14, 2000 at the White County Medical Center in Carmi. She was born March 3, 1909 in Emma, the daughter of John and Mary (Ray) Chastain.

She was married to Ossie Pollard on April 8, 1928 in Harrisburg and he preceded her in death on April 12, 1990.

Mrs. Pollard was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and attended the Senior Citizens Center.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Glenda Pollard of Carmi; one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Melvin Duncan of Carmi; a daughter-in-law, Karen Evers of Carmi; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Gerald, one brother, and two sisters, Gertie Fisher, and Verla Embry.

Funeral services will be held a 1 p.m. on Tuesday October 17, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi, with burial in Concord Cemetery at Emma. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday October 16, 2000 at the funeral home.


Kenneth H. Phelps

Kenneth H. Phelps, 69, of Waterloo, IL, and formerly of Carmi, died at his home on Monday, December 4, 2000. He was born April 16, 1931 in Carmi, the son of Chalon and Opal (Mayberry) Phelps.He married Bernice Turner on April 24, 1953 in Norris City and she survives.
 
Mr. Phelps was an inspector for United Auto Workers at the Fenton, Missouri Chrysler Plant for 25 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Korea, and receiving the purple heart. He was a member of the Carmi VFW Post 3851.
 
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Keith L. & Denise Phelps of Marissa, Martin W. & Kennaita Phelps of Waterloo, Brian & Rebecca Phelps of Maunie and one daughter, Dana Baxley of Marissa, five grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Eddie & Shirley Phelps of Waterloo, Ralph &Pat Phelps of Broughton, Tommy & JoAnn Phelps of New York, two sisters, Mary Ellen Otton of Waterloo and Judy & Cliff Johnson of Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Perry Dale Phelps.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi, with Rev. Mike Buckman officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Marshall Ferry Cemetery at Rising Sun.


James Powell

James Powell, 69 of Carmi, died Tuesday afternoon May 8, 2001 at North Park Nursing Center in Evansville. He was born February 18, 1932 in Hickory Plains, Arkansas the son of Henry and Minnie Powell.

He is survived by one brother, Willard Powell of Missouri.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday May 10, 2001 at Bruce Chapel Cemetery near Carmi. The Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.



William Allison Puckett

William Allison Puckett, 68 of Anna and formerly of Carmi died Saturday afternoon November 10, 2001 in Anna.

He was born November 2, 1933 in Carmi the son of John E. and Margaret Louise (Allison) Puckett.

Mr. Puckett obtained a BA in Marketing from Evansville College. He had been the manager of Old National Bank in Evansville. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the First Christian Church in Carmi.

He is survived by his father John of Carmi, a sister and brother-in-law, Janis and Walt Theurer of Evansville, and one niece, Jilli Worth of Louisville, KY. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Private family services were held at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi, with Robby King officiating. Members of the combined veteran units of the Carmi American Legion Post #224 and V.F.W. Post #3851 served as pallbearers. Burial was in Bruce Chapel Cemetery.
