Doris A. Owings
Doris A. Owings, 66, of Enfield died Tuesday evening, September 11, 2001 at her home. She was born March 7, 1935 in Enfield, the daughter of Virgil I. and Christina (Barton) Newman. She married Thomas Owings on May 5, 1950 in Enfield and he survives.
Mrs. Owings was a self-employed hairdresser operating in her home for nearly 30 years. She was a member of the Enfield General Baptist Church and had been an active volunteer at the Enfield Healthcare Center. She was also the finest mother in the world and loved her family and grandchildren deeply.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Gene & Robbie Owings of Enfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie Lynn & Joe Allen of Enfield and Vonnie Lee & Leroy Farris of McLeansboro; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, James & Pat Newman of Enfield; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Virgie & Max Foley of Newburgh, IN and Kathryne & Don Woodrow of McLeansboro. She was preceded in death by one brother, Gene Newman.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 14,
2001
at the Enfield General Baptist Church. Mrs. Owings will lie in state at
the church one hour before the service. Visitation will be from 5-8
p.m.
on Thursday, September 13, 2001 at the Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield.
Burial will be in Enfield Cemetery.
